Ram’s apex predator, the TRX, is back, and it now carries the SRT name. This is good news for V8 lovers, as the Ram 1500 range will now officially offer two V8 engines. One is a mild, mediocre option, not as quick as the turbocharged inline-six, while the other is capable of sprinting to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. Let’s see how this brand-new monster compares to the current daddy of the supercharged V8 trucks, the Ford F-150 Raptor R.

The 1500 TRX arrived on the scene in 2021 with a 6.2-liter supercharged V8. It produced 702, which was a big step up from the last Ram SRT. The F-150 Raptor R arrived with fewer horses than the TRX, but this problem was quickly rectified. Ford’s supercharged V8 produced 720 hp, which wasn’t that much more, but it was more, and that’s what counted.
As you can see above, the super truck now boasts 777 hp and 680 lb-ft of torque. Ram obviously had one target in mind, and that was to provide its customers with more. Only time and silly drag races will tell which is faster in a straight line, but as of now the bragging rights go to Ram.

The Ford has the edge when it comes to technical off-roading, and it’s largely due to the tires. The TRX comes standard with 35-inch tires on 18-inch wheels. Ford equips the Raptor with 37-inch tires as standard, which provides these extra few inches of lift.
To be fair, there’s not much these two pickup trucks won’t be able to crawl over. It’s also not exactly what they were built for. These trucks belong in the dunes, as they were built for jumping.
The TRX Borrows From The RHO

When the 1500 RHO made its debut, we couldn’t help but be impressed and disappointed. The new suspension hardware was impressive, but the Hurricane six-cylinder’s 550 hp just wasn’t good enough.
Thankfully, the TRX borrows the best of the RHO. Bilstein’s second-generation Black Hawk e2 adaptive performance shocks are standard, but retuned to make up for the additional weight of the supercharged V8 in the front. These shocks are built for extreme rebound and compression, and have even been constructed with quick heat dissipation in mind. They also have nitrogen-charged reservoirs, stainless-steel braided high-pressure hoses, and corrosion protection.

Obviously, these shocks can handle a jump, but there’s another plus side. Because they’re so advanced, they also provide a comfortable ride few other trucks can provide. The shocks are also calibrated to work with Ram’s proprietary Ram Active Terrain Dynamics suspension management system, which includes the traction and stability control. It also ties in with the various driving modes, and the launch control system.
Ram Takes The Luxury Up A Notch

Since we’re talking about a truck that costs more than $100,000, it’s only fair to add some luxuries. The TRX comes standard with carbon fiber trim, a cast metal shifter wrapped in semi-perforated leather, aluminum paddle shifters, and a milled TRX logo set into the carbon fiber on the passenger side. The leather-wrapped airbag cover with red stitching, a full suede headliner and suede-wrapped visors are all borrowed from the ultra-luxury Tungsten trim. So everything on the inside is wrapped in the type of material you’d expect in a high-end luxury car.
On the interior tech side, there’s a digital instrument cluster, a large 14.5-inch touchscreen, a 360-degree camera system, climate control, and power-adjustable seats. In essence, it was built to also be a daily car that will make your life as easy and luxurious as possible.
You Can Make It Even More Hardcore

The 2027 Ram TRX will arrive with a Bloodshot Night Edition. As if the standard car isn’t already good enough, the commemorative package adds a hand-painted Blacktop exterior upper in Diamond Black Crystal Pearl Coat with a Flame Red stripe running through the center. A new splash graphic down the side integrates nicely with the existing TRX stickers.

The TRX badges on the outside are also outlined in red. Finally, it has beadlock-capable wheels, finished in Satin Black with Satin Titanium beadlock rings. On the inside, it gets a glass-encased TRX center console badge, carbon fiber trim with red anodized thread woven into it.

It Costs A Lot Less Than The Ford

With destination charges included, the 2027 SRT TRX retails for $102,590. The Ford F-150 Raptor R goes for $114,220. That’s quite a significant chunk of change you can spend adding optional extras to the TRX. Ram says it will arrive in the second-half of 2026.
Will it really be able to kick the Raptor’s butt? That remains to be seen. We’re big fans of both cars, but we’ll only get the experience the 777 hp later in the year. For now, we’re just happy that Stellantis changed its mind about V8s. At the beginning of the year, there was a very real possibility that the 1500 range would go six-cylinder only, but now there are already two V8s and counting.
The more V8s the better.
