Last week, a number of diesel stations in California appeared on social media with the prices pinned at 9.99 – the highest number the pumps could display. Today, the pictures are showing something different: gas stations that are out of diesel entirely. Sensational posts about America running out of diesel have been popping up on YouTube pretty regularly since the US launched military strikes on Iran causing the closure of the Strait of Hormuz earlier this year – but this latest round of hysteria is being backed up by more credible news sources, as well. “Photos appearing to show gas stations…

In August, I wrote about my love of the music history podcast No Dogs in Space, but mourned the fact that there hadn’t been a new episode in over two years. Little did I know that hosts Carolina Hidalgo and Marcus Parks were gearing up to announce the show’s return with season four, Punk 2.0. The first episode premiered this week, part one of a series on the New York Dolls, a band near and dear to my heart as a native Staten Islander, home of frontman David Johansen. For the new season, Hidalgo and Parks decided it was time to…

Dash cam footage can only tell you so much, and what it shows depends on what’s visible in the recorded video. A blurry license plate or face is rarely helpful when providing evidence to an insurance company or law enforcement, which is why some drivers are seeking to upgrade their 1080p dashcams to a 4K option and why the change in resolution has quietly become one of the most important upgrades a driver can make to their vehicle. In this article, we’ll explore the differences between 4K dash cams compared to regular dashcams, highlight what to look for…

You’ll need a paid SpaceXAI or Cursor plan to get started. Robert Way/Getty Images In August, SpaceXAI opened the early public beta of Grok Bot, an agent platform “teammate” that signs into tools like Gmail, LinkedIn and Salesforce and performs actions on your behalf. It can fill out forms for you, respond on social media, send emails and more. There’s a bit of confusion surrounding Grok Bot for several reasons. One of which is its creatively stunted title, which is often confused with Grok chatbots and its constant tagging in X posts. “Regular” Grok works primarily…

What do you do when your customers keep demanding a shift knob but you don’t want to go through the trouble of actually engineering a manual option? If you ask Koenigsegg or Ferrari, you’ll be told to take a dual-clutch transmission, perform a nice bit of digital and mechanical wizardry to make it simulate manual behavior on demand, then finish things off with a gear stick and a clutch pedal. Just like that, you’ve got yourself a manual without actually having a manual. This trick was first seen on the Koenigsegg CC850 and then Maranello’s 12Cilindri Manuale, but it now…

The Volvo S90 is boring in the best kind of way, something only Volvo and few others can be credited for in this century. Used Volvos dating to 2012 come with decent tech and the majority of the active safety features of a new Toyota Corolla, but at a considerable discount. The Corolla is an excellent flavor of automotive insipidness, but a cut-price S90 with some miles under its belt is available for the same hard-earned money that would otherwise be spent on that Toyota. The Toyota GR GT is unlike anything the company has built before. Yes, the Lexus LFA proved that Toyota could transcend its humdrum reputation and build a true supercar, but the GR GT was built specifically with racing in mind. According to the automaker, the need to make the GR GT3 race car competitive influenced design decisions for the road car, not the other way around. “This entire vehicle was designed to be a…

The man who may stand to make the most money from the AI boom seems to think he knows better than anyone else, including researchers who have studied and worked on AI for decades. In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, he claimed there was a “0% chance” of AI being the end of the world. He also said of people sounding the alarm about the dangers of AI that, “Scaring people is unnecessary.
