    • The new Xiaomi YU7 standard version starts at 233,500 yuan ($34,320) and has a CLTC range of 643 kilometers.
    • The new variant is positioned by CEO Lei Jun as a weapon to challenge Tesla’s Model Y once again.

Xiaomi (HKEX: 1810) has launched a new standard version of its YU7 sport utility vehicle (SUV) to further challenge Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) in the world’s largest electric vehicle (EV) market.

The company rolled out the new YU7 variant at an event on Thursday with a starting price of 233,500 yuan ($34,320). This is 20,000 yuan, or 7.88%, lower than the previous standard YU7’s starting price of 253,500 yuan.

The older standard YU7 has been renamed the YU7 Long Range edition.

Xiaomi founder, chairman, and CEO Lei Jun said at today’s event that the move is aimed at challenging the sales of Tesla’s Model Y once again.

Tesla’s Model Y is currently offered in four variants in China, with starting prices ranging from 263,500 yuan to 339,000 yuan.

The dimensions of the new standard YU7 remain unchanged from the current models, measuring 4,999 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width, and 1,608 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm.

It features configuration changes, most notably being equipped with a 73.0 kilowatt-hour lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. Under CLTC conditions, this version can achieve a pure electric range of 643 kilometers.

Xiaomi directly compared the model with Tesla’s Model Y, highlighting that the entry-level rear-wheel-drive Model Y is equipped with a 62.5-kWh battery pack and has a CLTC range of 593 kilometers.

The previous standard YU7 was equipped with a 96.3-kWh LFP battery, offering a CLTC range of 835 kilometers.

The new version takes only 20 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%, and a 15-minute charge can replenish 405 kilometers of range.

In terms of power performance, the new standard YU7 adopts a rear-mounted single-motor layout with a peak power of 235 kilowatts, capable of accelerating from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in 5.9 seconds.

The new car has a curb weight of 2,200 kilograms, which is 115 kilograms lighter than the previous standard version, helping to improve the vehicle’s energy consumption performance and handling response.

At today’s launch event, Xiaomi also announced the addition of three new exterior colors for the YU7, including purple, gray, and red. The new vehicle also adds two new 20-inch wheel designs.

The Xiaomi YU7 was initially launched on June 26 last year and previously offered three variants — Standard, Pro, and Max — with starting prices of 253,500 yuan, 279,900 yuan, and 329,900 yuan, respectively.

As of April 30, 2026, the Xiaomi YU7 had delivered a cumulative total of 232,000 units within 10 months of its launch. In January of this year, the YU7 became the monthly sales champion in the Chinese market with 37,869 units sold.

Xiaomi delivered a total of 36,702 vehicles in April. Among them, the YU7 SUV contributed 9,876 deliveries, accounting for 26.91% of the sales share.

The YU7’s contribution was significantly lower than in previous months, mainly because the launch of the new-generation SU7 sedan contributed a larger share of deliveries.

The new-generation SU7 delivered 26,826 units in its first full month of deliveries.
