Jeep is elevating the Cherokee for 2027 and helping us sharpen our puns at the same time. The new Jeep is climbing in its second year, thanks to two new Altitude trim packs and the return of the Trailhawk package, which takes it even further off-road than ever before. Or at least ever before since Jeep discontinued the XJ Cherokee in 2001.
Naturally, the price is climbing too, but at least it’s only a small bump. About the price of a tank of gas these days.
Trailhawk Capability And Altitude Style Join The Lineup
The biggest Cherokee news for 2027 is the addition of the Trailhawk trim. We’ve alreadycovered this oneat length, but for a quick overview, here are the basics.
Trailhawk comes with a two-speed transfer case and Active Drive II 4×4 with a real low-range crawl mode. It has red tow hooks, skid plates, all-terrain tires, and a suspension tuned for off-road driving. For RVers, the Trailhawk can be flat-towed, which is rare in a modern crossover. If you want a 2027 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk, it’ll set you back $44,625. That includes the $1,955 destination fee.
The other two ways to raise demand for the Cherokee are a pair of Altitude trims. The package isn’t new for the Jeep brand, and it generally adds more black trim. In the case of the Laredo Altitude, it includes 18-inch gloss black wheels, gloss black badges, and faux leather seats with suede inserts. On the Limited Altitude, it comes with the wheels, badges, and a gloss black roof.
Jeep is adding new colors to the Cherokee’s palette for 2027. Fathom Blue and Ghost are both new and should be available right away. Copper Shino, a color launched last year on the Grand Cherokee, will show up later in the model year along with the similarly yellow-orange Goldilocks.
Only $130 More Than Last Year?
For the new year, the Cherokee is more expensive than last year. A base model starts at $37,125, including a $1,995 destination charge. That’s $130 more than last year, so points to Jeep on that one. That increase applies across all trims, too. Adding the Altitude package to Limited adds $595 to that model’s $42,125 MSRP, and the price for a Laredo Altitude hasn’t yet been announced.
Every Jeep Cherokee comes with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder hybrid that makes 210 horsepower and 230 pound-feet of torque. Jeep’s 4×4 system comes standard, and the company estimates it should get 37 miles per gallon combined. Jeep calls the Cherokee hybrid its most fuel-efficient model ever.
The all-terrain tires, new fascia, and uprated 4×4 system in the Trailhawk cut into that fuel economy severely. It’s estimated to deliver 31 mpg combined.
CarBuzz Insight – Why This Matters:
When vehicles like the Toyota Camry raise prices by nearly $1,000 year over year with seemingly no changes at all, Jeep’s $130 bump seems like nothing. Of course, we can’t help but think that it’s small enough that maybe it could have actually been nothing.
It will never fight the Wrangler for trail supremacy, but the Cherokee Trailhawk offers real upgrades for anyone who ventures further off-road than average. It also looks cool. Combined with new colors and the blacked-out options that have proven broadly popular, 2027 should be a strong year for the Cherokee.
