Honda is facing an unusual recall situation that has some Accord and CR-V owners heading back to the dealership for a second repair involving the exact same safety concern. The automaker has announced a new recall affecting 4,804 vehicles in the United States because a defective tire repair kit could potentially launch its sealant bottle cap toward anyone attempting to fix a flat tire. What makes this latest recall particularly frustrating is that Honda already addressed the problem earlier this year in a much larger campaign involving more than one million vehicles. Unfortunately, some owners who had the original recall performed may have received another defective component instead of the corrected replacement.

According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the latest recall covers certain 2023-2026 Honda Accord Hybrid and CR-V Hybrid models, along with one 2025 Honda CR-V Fuel Cell EV. The problem involves the emergency flat-tire repair kit supplied with these vehicles, specifically a sealant bottle and nozzle assembly containing a one-way valve. If the nozzle isn’t properly connected to the tire valve during use, pressure can build inside the sealant bottle. Should the pressure relief system fail to operate as intended, the bottle cap could suddenly detach with enough force to injure someone standing nearby. It’s a rather unexpected hazard from something designed to help drivers deal with an inconvenient flat tire.

The reason for this second recall comes down to a mistake in the replacement parts supply chain. Honda determined that supplier TEK Corporation inadvertently mixed previously defective components with newly corrected parts at its warehouse. Some of those older components were then shipped to dealerships and installed in vehicles undergoing repairs for the original recall. Honda began investigating the mix-up in July 2026 and ultimately identified 4,804 potentially affected vehicles, including 2,745 CR-V Hybrids and 2,058 Accord Hybrids. The good news is that Honda reported no related injuries, deaths, or warranty claims as of October 1, 2026. Still, the situation highlights how even a relatively simple repair can become complicated when replacement parts aren’t properly managed.

Honda plans to begin mailing owner notification letters on November 16, 2026, instructing affected customers to return to an authorized dealership for another inspection. Dealers will examine the tire repair kit and replace the nozzle with a corrected component if necessary, free of charge. The new campaign is identified as NHTSA recall number 26V663000, with Honda’s internal recall designation PPW. Owners can check their vehicle identification number through the official NHTSA recall website or contact Honda customer service at 1-866-784-1870. Considering this issue involves a safety device that drivers may need during an already stressful roadside situation, affected owners should have the repair completed before relying on their tire repair kit again.
