Brabus Rocket is a series of modified vehicles developed by Brabus, and by modified vehicles, we mean all sorts of Mercedes-Benz models turned into supercar-spec weapons. Typically, Rocket cars are sedans, but the Brabus 900 Rocket Edition is… a little bigger. This monster is based on an AMG spec G-Wagen – specifically the W465 generation G 63.
And now, an SUV initially designed for off-roading is a 900-horsepower, open-roof rocket for the road. Yes, Brabus yanked the roof for an even more absurd version: the Rocket 900 Edition Cabrio. And it’s even more outlandish than you know.

If you’re going to put a big SUV with 900 hp and even more torque on the road, it also needs to not fall off the road when pushed around a corner. So, drink in those 12-inch-wide Platinum Edition 24-inch wheels, an evolution of the iconic Brabus Monoblock II three-spoke design from the late 1980s, wrapped in Hankook performance tires.
Then there’s the Brabus RideControl aluminum coilover suspension with integrated cooling elements to make sure the tires maintain a steady contact with the road. And while you could still take this G-Class off-road if you really want to, the changes lower the right height by up to 45 millimeters (1.77 inches).
To generate all that power, the Rocket 900 Edition Cabrio’s AMG twin-turbocharged V8 gets all kinds of upgrades. The displacement is punched up from 4.0 liters to 4.5 and fitted with matching forged pistons. The turbochargers are another major part of the upgrade, replaced with larger compressor units generating a maximum boost pressure of 1.4 bar. And, you can’t have an outlandish car without turbo blow-off noises, which come from a pair of Brabus BoostXtra valves.

Brabus is an engineering company above all else, so the cabriolet conversion is a sophisticated two-piece soft-top construction comprising more than 500 components and developed to be quiet, seal out the weather, and be quick to put up or down. The key is a carbon-fiber roof bow integrated into the front section of the folding roof that maintains its shape even at high speeds.
Further back is a “C-BOW” steel roll bar integrated into the modified bodywork, clad externally with exposed carbon fiber, and securing the rear section of the roof. When folded away, the roof fits behind the rear seats with a tailor-made tonneau cover.

Whether you like this take on the G-Wagen or not is a matter of taste, but it’s got to be fun to drive even if the full potential of the engine and chassis are never used. The G-Wagen does actually have an intermittent history of soft tops, but the last one was in 2013. But Mercedes recently teased a G-Class cabriolet, so it just might come back as a factory thing. When it will materialize is anyone’s guess at the moment, if it ever materializes.
