Volkswagen’s Chinese joint venture FAW-Volkswagen will officially launch the ID. AURA T6 on September 20, making the electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) a key test of its push into smart vehicles.
Pre-sales began on August 28, with 4 variants priced from 135,900 yuan ($20,060) to 169,900 yuan.
The ID. AURA T6 is the first model in FAW-Volkswagen’s new AURA lineup and Volkswagen’s first all-electric SUV equipped with LiDAR.
The 5-seat midsize SUV offers CLTC ranges of 540 kilometers and 660 kilometers, powered by CATL batteries and a single motor with peak output of 170 kW.
The ID. AURA T6 measures 4,811 mm in length, 1,879 mm in width and 1,648 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,836 mm.
The 2 higher-end variants feature 192-channel LiDAR and an integrated hardware and software solution from Carizon, Volkswagen’s joint venture with Horizon Robotics (HKEX: 9660).
The system runs on the Journey 6H chip, which delivers 420 TOPS of computing power. It supports all-scenario urban NOA (navigation on autopilot), memory parking across multiple floors over distances of up to 3 kilometers, and route-retracing reverse driving for up to 200 meters.
The vehicle uses the CEA (China Electronic Architecture) jointly developed by Volkswagen and Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV). It combines central computing with zonal controllers and includes a dedicated computing module for its AI Agent.
The cockpit runs on a 4-nanometer chip with about 20 TOPS of computing power, supporting on-device deployment of large AI models and vehicle-wide over-the-air updates.
Inside, the SUV features a 15.6-inch 2.5K central touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 25.8-inch augmented reality head-up display.
The ID. AURA T6 debuted at the Beijing Auto Show in April as part of Volkswagen’s 2026 product offensive in China.
Volkswagen plans to launch 13 new models in China this year, including 7 all-new new energy vehicles (NEVs). FAW-Volkswagen will contribute 4 models, including 2 from the AURA lineup.
Volkswagen Group aims to introduce more than 30 all-new NEVs in China by 2029, while FAW-Volkswagen plans to increase NEVs’ share of its sales to about 60% by 2030.
The ID. ERA 5S is the first sedan in the ID. ERA family and Volkswagen’s first sedan globally to support urban NOA.
