Geely recalls 93,000 vehicles over LiDAR defect that may disable driver assistance

    • The recall covers the Geely Galaxy M9 as well as the Lynk & Co 900, 10 EM-P, 07 and 08, with process variation at a supplier potentially damaging the LiDAR’s power chip.
    • Geely will replace the LiDAR units on the recalled vehicles free of charge.

Geely Auto (HKEX: 0175) recalling nearly 93,000 vehicles over a LiDAR defect that could cause driver assistance functions to shut down or fail to properly identify unusual objects.

The auto giant has filed two recall plans with China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), both taking effect on August 24.

The first recall covers 18,878 Geely Galaxy M9 vehicles built between July 20 and October 26, 2025. The large plug-in hybrid SUV is one of the flagship models of the Geely Galaxy brand.

    The second recall covers 74,037 Lynk & Co 900, Lynk & Co 10 EM-P, Lynk & Co 07 and Lynk & Co 08 vehicles built between January 8 and December 10, 2025.

The two recalls total 92,915 vehicles, both involving LiDAR defects.

Process variation at a supplier may have damaged the power IC inside the LiDAR unit, according to the announcement.

On the Galaxy M9, that could cause driver assistance functions to exit or fail to activate. On the Lynk & Co models, the defect could leave the system unable to adequately identify, warn of or respond to unusual objects once assisted driving is engaged.

Geely will replace the LiDAR units free of charge. The company will use a cloud platform to identify early diagnostic signals, flag vehicles that may be at risk in advance, and have its customer service team invite owners to visit stores. Vehicles that have already had the part replaced will not need another replacement.

There were earlier signs of the problem. In mid-August, several Chinese media outlets reported that owners of models including the Lynk & Co 900 and Lynk & Co 10 had seen repeated on-screen alerts such as “front LiDAR malfunction” and “assisted driving speed limited.”

A Lynk & Co insider said on August 12 that the company was working with its supplier to analyze the cause.

The timing is unhelpful for Lynk & Co. The brand sold 16,382 vehicles in July, down 40% year-on-year and its fourth consecutive month of double-digit declines, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

Lynk & Co sold 160,597 vehicles in the first seven months of the year, down 11% from a year earlier and less than 40% of its 400,000-unit annual target.

Over the same period, sister brand Zeekr saw July sales rise 111% to 35,837 vehicles. Lynk & Co is now part of Zeekr Group and focuses on the mid-to-high-end sporty segment.

This is also the second set of recalls Geely filed on the same day. The group earlier announced a recall of 92,658 Zeekr 007 and Zeekr X vehicles over risks with their emergency mechanical door release devices.

Chinese automakers filed recalls covering more than 7 million vehicles today, mostly related to emergency mechanical door release devices.

Multiple automakers, including Tesla, Xiaomi, Geely, Leapmotor and Xpeng, filed recall plans on the same day, covering more than 7 million vehicles in total.
