- The Nio Day event to be held in Wuhan, Hubei province, in December could serve as the stage for the updated ET5 Touring.
- ET5 Touring deliveries fell 64.7% year-on-year to 1,561 units in July.
Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) is road-testing an updated ET5 Touring, with newly surfaced images offering a clearer look at the electric wagon’s planned refresh.
Weibo automotive blogger @万万_ECC on Wednesday posted high-resolution images of what was said to be a camouflaged updated Nio ET5 Touring.
The vehicle retains its wagon body style and is covered in Nio’s signature camouflage wrap.
This is the second time this month that spy shots of the model undergoing road tests have surfaced. On August 1, another blogger, @飞机先生_, posted lower-resolution images showing the front of the new vehicle.
Nio management had previously hinted at plans for a new wagon. At a media briefing on May 28, the day after the ES9 was launched, executives were asked whether the company would introduce a new wagon and gave a vague but affirmative response.
The updated ET5 Touring could make its official debut at Nio Day near the end of this year. Following a user vote, Nio Day 2026 will be held in December in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province.
For Nio, the new model may not be coming too soon. The ET5 Touring was once one of the main sales drivers for the company’s core Nio brand, but its momentum has weakened significantly.
The model delivered 1,561 units in July, down 64.7% year-on-year and 14.3% from June, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
In the first 7 months of the year, ET5 Touring deliveries totaled 13,695 units, down 47.2% year-on-year.
