    • Stelato G9 starts at 439,800 yuan ($64,780) in pre-sales and secured more than 15,000 pre-orders in its first 72 hours.
    • The launch is scheduled for the day before the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show opens.

Huawei-backed Stelato said Thursday that it will officially launch its off-road SUV (sport utility vehicle), the Stelato G9, on August 20, with an event set to begin at 2:30 pm that day.

The vehicle will debut alongside other new products from the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) at the same event.

The Stelato G9, the first off-road SUV under HIMA, opened for pre-sales on August 5, with prices starting at 439,800 yuan ($64,780).

Richard Yu, Huawei’s executive director, said at the time that the model received 5,100 pre-orders in the first 2 hours after pre-sales began. Last week, Stelato announced that the G9 had received more than 15,000 pre-orders in its first 72 hours.

The Stelato G9 is available with battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) powertrain options, as well as 5-seat and 6-seat configurations.

All variants come standard with an L3-ready architecture, the premium version of Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 5 advanced driver-assistance system, dual-motor all-wheel drive and an adaptive mechanical differential lock on the rear axle.

The chassis features dual-chamber air suspension, dual-valve continuously variable dampers and rear-wheel steering of up to ±12 degrees.

The EREV version is equipped with a 75.4-kWh battery pack, providing a CLTC pure-electric range of 405 kilometers and a combined range of more than 1,366 kilometers.

The BEV version uses a 120-kWh ternary lithium battery pack and has a CLTC range of 728 kilometers.

The Stelato G9 measures 5,206 mm in length, 2,050 mm in width and 1,897 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,160 mm. Its length increases to 5,377 mm when fitted with an optional rear-mounted storage box.

The Stelato G9 is the first model to receive a Beijing road-testing permit for L3 autonomous driving at speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour.

Its launch comes just ahead of the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show. The event, China’s first A-level auto show in the second half of this year, will open on August 21, with all 5 HIMA brands set to participate.

Stelato is jointly developed by Huawei and Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC Group). Its lineup previously consisted of only the S9 sedan and S9T wagon.

The latest update to the Stelato S9 comes just four months after its previous refresh, while the updated S9T arrives only six months after its initial launch.
