The UX also got a sportier F SPORT Design trim for the 250h from 2023, which gave the buyer more options to choose from.
For an urban buyer, combining the subcompact SUV stance of a Lexus that was city-friendly, with a powertrain that sipped fuel seemed like a match made in heaven. 2024 marked the last year for the UX 250h in the US, with the 2025 UX getting a 300h nomenclature with a more potent hybrid system. So, what made it so efficient?

The UX 250h’s powertrain made sure fuel economy was the most important factor for this subcompact SUV. Performance was not its strong suit, with under 200 horsepower and a sub-nine-second 0 to 60 mph time. However, in the city, it seamlessly integrated switching between power from the battery and the engine. Combined with the e-CVT gearbox, it is also better suited to stop-go city traffic. Each trim was offered with either FWD or AWD.
It is not a conventional plug-in hybrid, and the nickel metal hydride battery (which was replaced with a lithium-ion from 2025) uses regenerative braking, lifting and coasting and the motor to regain some EV-only range. This helps the car be less dependent on the engine at low speeds, saving even more fuel.

The 2024 Lexus 250h has an impressive combined EPA rating of 42 mpg for the FWD variants. Naturally, the AWD versions saw a slightly lower rating of 41/38/39 mpg for the city/highway/combined, respectively. This is because the engine has to work harder to power all four wheels, in exchange for more traction and grip. These numbers are even more impressive when we compare them to the 2026 Lexus UX, which gets an estimated 45/41/43 mpg for the city/highway/combined. The fuel economy gains are only marginal for a new generation of hybrid system in the latest UX.

The urban city proposition carries forwards in its design inside and outside as well. It features the signature spindle grille at the front, as well as the tick mark headlight details. Classic Toyota benefits such as physical climate controls are still present, and the central touchscreen was updated for the 2023 model year, measuring at eight or 12.3 inches, depending on spec choice.
However, one of the bigger drawbacks of having a subcompact SUV is the rear space, or lack thereof. Space for passengers is quite limited, especially for longer distances. There is just 33.1 inches of rear legroom and 36.3 inches of headroom. Trunk space also suffers, with just 17.1 cu-ft of space with the rear row in place. Safe to say, if you are looking for a car for more than two people, you may have to look elsewhere and sacrifice the UX’s city-friendly dimensions.

The 2024 model year is still relatively new, without having the uncertainties regarding reliability that may occur with the latest generation. Lexus does not have a reputation for making drastic changes over each model year, and the same is apparent here as well. On Cars.com, a base UX 250h AWD with 37k miles is listed for $32,895. New, the 2026 UX 300h AWD starts from $40,420.
A UX 250h F SPORT is listed for $33,985 with 40k miles. A 2026 UX 300h F SPORT Design starts from $42,685. Prices typically range from $32,000 to $39,000, depending on mileage and trim level. The 2024 UX 250h also holds its value on the used market, as shown by our price trends graph.

Another win for the UX is its reliability record. The 2024 Lexus UX has not had any recalls or any catastrophic mechanical issues in the past few years, according to the NHTSA. In fact, the 2025 Lexus 300h has been recalled twice due to issues such as loss of power from a damaged wire harness and instrument panel failures, which makes the older UX 250h more reliable than the current generation.
However, no car is perfect, so make sure to have a look at a service history before buying a second-hand example. Keep in mind, the 12V auxiliary battery may be prone to draining if the car is left idle for longer than two weeks. As long as you drive the car, the UX should keep you happy for many miles. As this is a hybrid, battery issues may creep in after a few years, but Lexus has a good track record of making reliable hybrid systems.
Why You Should Buy A Used Lexus UX 250h
Overall, the 2024 UX 250h is a great car for urban buyers looking for a city commuter with the luxury finesse of a Lexus. It is almost just as efficient as the 2026 model, albeit slightly slower in terms of performance. It is technically more reliable, and a used example can be found for around $10,000 cheaper than the latest UX.
For some people, the older dashboard layout may actually be slightly easier to use and live with daily. Keep in mind, the UX is quite compact for more than two people, especially at the back. Nevertheless, traveling in a maneuverable daily driver with excellent fuel economy and opulent luxury inside should keep many people satisfied for a long time, especially if you save ten grand by buying a 2024 model.
