    Audi

Audi is bringing its new performance flagship to American soil for the first time, with the limited-production Nuvolari set to make its U.S. debut during Monterey Car Week. Following its global introduction at the Monaco Grand Prix earlier this year, the plug-in hybrid supercar will appear at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering on August 14 before moving to the Concept Lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 16. For Audi, the timing and location make plenty of sense. Monterey has become one of the most important stages in the world for exotic, collectible, and forward-looking performance cars, and the Nuvolari is intended to represent exactly that kind of halo product.

Limited to just 499 examples worldwide, the Audi Nuvolari is being positioned as the most powerful production vehicle in the brand’s history. Its high-performance plug-in hybrid powertrain produces 987 horsepower, or 1,001 PS, while Audi claims a top speed exceeding 217 mph. The car also incorporates active aerodynamics, quattro predictive ride technology, a new Audi Space Frame, and a full carbon-fiber body. Those specifications place the Nuvolari firmly in modern supercar territory, but its significance goes beyond outright speed. Audi is using the car to preview a new generation of electrified performance engineering and a broader design direction for the company.

Motorsport plays a major role in that story. The Nuvolari was developed alongside Audi’s first Formula 1 program, with lessons from racing influencing areas such as energy management, aerodynamics, lightweight construction, braking, recuperation, and launch control. The idea of transferring technology from the racetrack to road cars is hardly new for Audi, but the Nuvolari arrives at a time when electrification is changing what that relationship looks like. Rather than using hybrid technology primarily for efficiency, Audi is applying it as another tool for delivering stronger acceleration, smarter energy deployment, and higher levels of sustained performance.

The design also signals where Audi wants to take its highest-end cars. An available exposed carbon-fiber package puts the lightweight material on display rather than hiding it beneath paint, while the overall exterior is among the first major expressions of the brand’s evolving design language under Chief Creative Officer Massimo Frascella and his team. Audi will have designers, technical specialists, and product experts on hand at The Quail to discuss the Nuvolari in greater detail, while private appointments throughout the weekend will give prospective buyers and collectors a closer look at the limited-production model.

Showing the Nuvolari at both The Quail and Pebble Beach puts Audi’s newest supercar in front of exactly the audience it needs to impress. Monterey Car Week has increasingly become as much about tomorrow’s collectibles as yesterday’s classics, and a 499-unit, 987-horsepower Audi flagship certainly has the ingredients to attract attention from serious enthusiasts. More importantly, the Nuvolari offers a glimpse at what Audi performance may look like as the company combines electrification, Formula 1 technology, carbon-fiber construction, and a fresh design philosophy. If this is the opening act for Audi’s next performance chapter, the brand is clearly aiming much higher than simply building a faster road car.
