Jaguar Officially Reveals Type 01’s Production Interior

Jaguar has finally pulled back the curtain on the interior of its upcoming Type 01 EV, offering the clearest look yet at the four-door grand tourer tasked with reinventing the British brand. Like the design of the exterior, the interior appears to be very close to what was shown on Jaguar’s polarizing Type 00 concept from 2024. That shouldn’t come as a surprise, as both the concept and the production model are meant to signify Jaguar’s ambition to move further upmarket while also swapping to an all-electric future.

    Minimalism Meets Modern Luxury

The Type 01’s interior follows the same minimalist theme as the concept, letting the richness of its materials, build quality, and technology deliver the sense of luxury rather than piling on visual clutter. The cabin also emphasizes the stretched GT’s longitudinal proportions, with a central spine running through the cabin and dividing it into four individual compartments. With such a design, it’s safe to assume Jaguar won’t be offering a three-seat bench as an alternative.

Some concessions needed to be made on the journey to production, though. The driving position appears to remain low-slung, but the concept’s oval steering wheel has given way to a more conventional design, while a digital display now sits directly ahead of the driver. It also wears the new stylized script for the Jaguar name, which mixes uppercase and lowercase letters – a detail that’s sure to upset OCD types.

    Technology That’s On Demand

Digital technology has become an unavoidable part of daily life, but Jaguar has made a conscious effort to keep it from overwhelming the Type 01’s cabin. Rather than using digital displays to span the dashboard, the company has taken an on-demand approach to its interfaces. A small display sits in the center of the dash and appears to show only the controls needed at any given time, with climate settings seemingly serving as its native menu. Even the cabin’s storage compartments are tucked away and hidden from view.

The new interior photos also confirm that the Type 01 will do away with a conventional rear window. Like with the Polestar 4 and various mid-engine supercars, it will use a rear-facing camera to show the driver what’s happening behind the car on a digital display. Jaguar has positioned the screen centrally at the base of the windshield, roughly level with the door mirrors, keeping the driver’s sight-line focused ahead while still providing a view to the rear.

    Type 01’s Debut Coming Soon

Jaguar also confirmed that the Type 01 will finally make its debut on October 6 at an event in New York City, roughly a year later than originally planned. Delays aren’t unusual for major automakers, but Jaguar made the unusually risky decision to phase out its existing lineup ahead of its EV revival. That has left dealers with little to sell beyond remaining inventory for much of the past year. Understandably, many of them are nervous.

Officially, the pause is intended to clear out legacy inventory before Jaguar begins its reinvention as a high-end EV brand. The Type 01 is expected to start around $130,000, or significantly more than what most Jaguars have traditionally cost outside of highly limited special editions. Two additional models are expected to follow relatively quickly, reportedly a more conventional sedan and an SUV. All three will ride on a Jaguar-exclusive EV platform capable of producing up to 986 horsepower from a three-motor powertrain, with enough battery capacity for an EPA-rated range of around 400 miles.

CarBuzz Insight – Why This Matters

Jaguar was already in trouble long before it announced its risky reinvention. Global sales had fallen steadily over the past decade, dropping to the low 60,000-unit range in the years before the company began axing its old lineup. That makes the Type 01 more than just a new model, as it’s the centerpiece of Jaguar’s attempt to rebuild itself from the ground up. It’s also a huge gamble.

Jaguar is betting on expensive EVs at a time when demand for battery-powered vehicles, especially in the luxury segment, has been tepid at best. Jaguar is also attempting to convince buyers that a brand whose legacy is rooted in racing, performance, and beautiful gas-powered sports cars can now lead an electric future. Whether customers are ready to follow Jaguar into that future is another matter. We’ll start to find out after the Type 01’s debut this fall.
