BYD (HKEX: 1211) will launch a revamped Seal 06 sedan on August 11, adding LiDAR to one of its volume sedan models.
Zhang Zhuo, general manager of BYD’s Ocean lineup sales division, released a teaser video on Saturday, announcing that the 2027 Seal 06 will be launched on August 11, at an event starting at 7:30 pm in Shenzhen.
The video shows that the new model is equipped with the God’s Eye B driver assistance system with LiDAR, and comes in both DM-i plug-in hybrid and all-electric EV versions.
This is the first time BYD has brought the LiDAR-equipped God’s Eye B system down to a family sedan in this price range.
The current Seal 06 EV uses the vision-only God’s Eye C system, which corresponds to DiPilot 100.
In terms of design, the 2027 Seal 06 adopts a new Ocean aesthetic, with new full-width tail lights and 18-inch wheels.
According to earlier regulatory filings, the new model measures 4,870 mm long, 1,890 mm wide and 1,495 mm tall, making it longer than the current version.
The current Seal 06 EV is 4,720 mm long, 1,880 mm wide and 1,495 mm tall, with the same 2,820 mm wheelbase.
The all-electric version of the 2027 Seal 06 will offer single motors with peak power of 120 kW and 240 kW, up from 110 kW and 160 kW in the current model. The plug-in hybrid version has a 1.5-liter engine, with CLTC battery ranges of 170 km, 205 km and 230 km.
The current Seal 06 EV was launched in June 2025 at the Chongqing Auto Show, offering three variants priced from 109,800 yuan to 129,800 yuan, with a maximum CLTC range of 545 km.
The Seal started as a single electric sedan and has since grown into a series covering multiple models, serving as BYD’s main play in the affordable EV market.
The series sold 518,412 units in 2025, contributing 11.26% of BYD group’s sales in the period, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
Momentum has slowed this year, however. Seal series sales were 40,399 units in July, down 13.77% year-on-year, while sales for the January-July period were 210,541 units, down 15.60% year-on-year.
