You already know the shape, and you’ve already been wowed by the insane amount of power contained within. This is the new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door, fresh for 2027 with a fab body and over 1,100 horsepower in its GT 63 spec. But this particular Mercedes isn’t the top-spec. In fact, it has less than half the power of the GT 63. And yet, it still gets to 60 mph in less than four seconds.
Folks, welcome to the world of Mercedes-AMG, where even the entry-level model is wicked fast. Say hello to the 2027 AMG GT 53 4-door coupe.
Two Motors, 800-Volt, All-Wheel Drive

Slotting below the GT 55, the new GT 53 4-Door works its magic with just two electric motors instead of three. One is mounted at the front axle, the other at the rear, and combined, they generate a maximum output of 536 horsepower. It’s important to note that this is peak output – like the other electric Mercs, you can only get that for short bursts of acceleration, but it delivers in a big way. Mercedes says zero to 60 mph takes 3.4 seconds, which just happens to be a tenth of a second quicker than the Porsche Taycan 4S. Coincidence? Sure it is.
When you’re not trying to win stoplight battles, the GT 53 4-door generates 362 hp all day every day. A two-speed transmission helps with initial acceleration, then offers a taller second gear to help the sleek coupe sedan make the most of its big battery. And it’s pretty darned big with a usable 106 kWh powering an 800-volt architecture. Mercedes uses its Central Coolant Hub to help keep the battery and associated components cool, and when everything is working right, the GT 53 has a WLTP range of nearly 500 miles.
Once you’ve depleted that range, either through lengthy road trips or continuous acceleration pulls, the 800-volt architecture supports impressive fast-charging rates. If you can find an 800-volt station, charging at 600 kW is possible. That can add a whopping 330 miles of range in just 10 minutes, but if 400-volt stations are all you got, the car will automatically switch to accommodate the difference.
What About The Handling?

Power is part of the AMG equation, but handling matters too and the entry-level model still delivers. The company’s AMG Ride Control suspesnion plugs in air springs, adaptive dampers and sensors galore to monitor the road and adapt to the situation as dictated by the various drive modes. That includes AMGFORCE Sport +, a drive program that simulates a combustion engine experience complete with racy six-cylinder sounds and faux shifting with steering wheel paddles.
AMG’s 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system also adapts to the needs of the driver, be it maximum performance or maximum efficiency. The system can vector torque to the wheel that needs it most, or the system can completely decouple the front motor for a pure rear-wheel drive experience. That goes a long way in helping the GT 53 achieve its impressive range capability. So does the standard active aero rear spoiler and optional rear diffuser.
A Pure AMG Interior

As we’ve already seen with the GT 55 and GT 63, the new 4-door’s greenhouse is properly sporty and the GT 53 is no different. It doesn’t have quite the same bells and whistles as the GT 63, but it also doesn’t have 1,100 hp to deal with. The digital layout is the same, the quilted doors are still there, the bolstered front seats “offer a sporty and expressive design,” and the optional Sky Control panoramic roof overlooks it all.
The 14-inch center screen angles towards the driver to give the GT 53 a cockpit-like ambiance. The passenger has a display to play with, and the center console serves as a command station with its integrated rotary dial to fine-tune the responsiveness of the electric motors. It may be entry-level, but it’s still AMG. There are all kinds of settings to make your driving experience truly your own.

At this time, Mercedes-AMG doesn’t have pricing available for the new GT 53 4-Door. Expect that to come closer to the car’s on-sale date in early 2027, when it will reach dealerships in the US.
