Toyota bZ Gets The Smallest Possible Price Increase, Still Cheaper Than Ioniq 5

In the past year, automakers have been working hard to cut costs on their entry-level and volume EVs in the wake of a discontinued tax credit and more competition. Hyundai and Toyota were among them, with the former dropping the base MSRP of the Ioniq 5 to $35,000, and Toyota dropping the bZ to $34,900. A year later, Toyota has kept price creep to the absolute minimum, still sliding below the Hyundai’s price.

The bZ Price Rises By $80

Yes, you read that right, Toyota added $80 to the base price of the bZ. That applies to every trim level and powertrain option. So, the $34,980 MSRP manages to stay $20 lower than that of the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Add in the destination charges, and the difference increases, as the Toyota’s fee is $1,595, and the Hyundai’s is $1,650, bringing the total savings to $75.

That base model bZ is the XLE with front-wheel drive, and it’s the version with the smallest battery pack providing 236 miles of range and 165 horsepower. For another $3,000, you can upgrade to the Plus version that adds a larger battery with 314 miles of range and 221 hp. Add another $2,000, and your XLE will get a second motor with 338 hp and 288 miles of range. You can see the MSRPs for the whole bZ lineup below.

All prices shown are just the MSRP, excluding the $1,595 destination charge

        • AWD: $39,980

        • FWD: $43,380
        • AWD: $45,380

In addition to the regular bZ, Toyota also added $80 to the price of all the bZ Woodland models. The Woodland is the larger, more wagon-like, and more rugged-looking version of the bZ. It has less range from the same battery pack at between 260 and 281 miles, but it also packs even more power with dual motors making 375 hp. That does mean that the Woodland is the most expensive bZ variant with a base MSRP of $45,380. You can find the Woodland’s pricing below.

      • Base: $45,380
      • Premium: $47,480

The downside of Toyota’s mini price bump is that the company didn’t add anything new to the 2027 models. It didn’t even add a new paint color. Then again, Toyota gave the bZ a major update for 2026, and that was the very first model year for the Woodland. The 2026 bZ refresh brought greater range and more power from the large-battery versions, plus faster charging and an upgraded infotainment system for all. So, despite nothing extra being added, Toyota has maintained its EVs’ value propositions.

CarBuzz Insight – Why This Matters:

With cars getting more expensive across segments and body styles, we’re glad to see automakers resisting the urge to tack on a few hundred dollars of price every year just because they can. The small price increase also suggests that Toyota wants to be more competitive with EVs, and that it sees price as a barrier to entry into the market. With any luck, other automakers will also want to compete with Toyota on price, and even if there aren’t price cuts, maybe prices on EVs won’t rise as fast as some other models.
