The Ford Custom Garage, which serves as sort of a clearing house for the Blue Oval’s accessories and performance parts, is expanding its lineup by one with the arrival of the Bronco “Desert Rising.” The styling package is inspired by the natural beauty of state of Utah, including its vivid sunsets and unusual terrain. Featuring pink, rose, and magenta accents, the Desert Rising may not seem like much of an imposing off-roader, but bona fide hardware under the skin says otherwise.

High Style, Built For The High Country

Based on the premium Bronco Outer Banks model with the Sasquatch package, the Desert Rising already comes equipped with an electronic locking differential on both axles, 35-inch tires, a high-clearance suspension, and a lower final drive ratio for improved crawling capability. To that impressive list of credentials, the Ford Custom Garage package adds a suite of mostly design-oriented changes, starting with the flow-formed, white-painted Method race wheels with matching white accents on the Trail Sight fender trims.

The Desert Rising features a color-blocked exterior graphics package whose hues are inspired by different natural phenomena in the Beehive state. The pastel rose color can be found in the Great Salt Lake in late summer, when the water temperature is at its highest. The briny lake water is the perfect host for a variety of microorganisms that turn pink in order to convert sunlight into energy.

Per Ford Custom Garage Senior Designer Bhavna Mistry, the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park in Southern Utah provides the inspiration for the middle color. The park’s iron-rich sand takes on a solid pink tone that gets even more brilliant at sunrise and sunset. Meanwhile, the cactus in and around the park endures brutal dry weather all year round, but when a rare rainstorm hits the area, that plant life erupts with magenta-colored flowers – the third element of the Desert Rising design scheme.

    Breaking New Ground Inside

Ford Custom Garage collaborated with Katzkin for the first time on the interior of the special package, which gets boldly colored leather seat covers to replace the standard Outer Banks model’s basic black leather and vinyl. In the case of the Desert Rising, those seats are the same vivid magenta as the cactus flowers, with black accents and contrast stitching for a two-tone appearance. The cabin also gets a few white accents to match those wheels.

The Desert Rising is the first in a new “Horizon series” of Ford Custom Garage Bronco packages. The Blue Oval plans to release one Horizon package each year, with colors and design elements inspired by a different rugged locale. “These kinds of landscapes aren’t found on the road,” said Mistry. “But those are the places that Bronco owners love to go.”

If the Oxford White photo model’s Barbie-esque color scheme isn’t your thing, the package also comes with the owner’s choice of Shadow Black, Avalanche Gray, or Ruby Red Metallic tintcoat. The dealer-installed Desert Rising pack starts at $13,695, plus whatever labor your service department charges for its installation.

Carbuzz Insight – Why This Matters:

The Ford Custom Garage program is kind of an interesting one, offering alterations for the Mustang pony car, the compact Maverick pickup, the Bronco, and a sport-truck F-150. The automaker claims that more than 40 percent of its customers accessorize or modify their cars, and Custom Garage packages allow them to do that with a blend of styling, functional, and performance alterations that come pre-bundled for easier ordering. The Desert Rising may not have much in the way of added off-road capability, but it’s starting from such a good place already that Ford Custom Garage could just focus on aesthetics. The pink-on-pink-on-pink color scheme may not be for everyone, but Ford almost certainly just created someone’s absolute dream Bronco with the Desert Rising.
