Honda is about to axe what might be its most interesting car available to the masses. The Honda Civic Si, the company’s last sedan with a manual transmission, is about to get cut from the lineup. The Acura Integra A-Spec manual is going with it, but the problem isn’t low sales. That could mean these stick-shift fun machines might come back some day, but that depends on all kinds of factors that we suspect Honda isn’t even sure of right now.

It’s All About The Manuals Baby
Late yesterday, a post made to Reddit showed a page from a document purporting to be from Honda corporate. It was a notification to workers at Honda’s plant in Alliston, Ontario, where all Civic Si and sedan models are built for the US.
The notice reads: “due to evolving business conditions surrounding EPA regulations required to certify 2027 MY and beyond, Honda has made the decision to pause the production of trims that utilize the 1.5-liter turbocharged engine paired to the 6-speed manual transmission (6MT) at the conclusion of the 2026 model year.” Apparently, the stick is causing some emissions woes, which is really something considering all the emission rollbacks in the US as of late.
CarBuzz has confirmed this with American Honda Motor. In a statement, a spokesperson for the company told us that production would be paused at the end of the model year. However, the statement was optimistic, saying that “Importantly, Honda and Acura currently plan for both trims to return to the lineup and American Honda expects to share more details at the appropriate time.”
It’s not clear when the model year will wrap up, but Honda told CarBuzz it expects to have enough inventory to last into early 2027. That is, unless buyers show up in droves before the sweet-shifting sports sedan fades into the sunset. This affects the Si sedan, but it also impacts the Acura Integra. The A-Spec Tech with 6MT will also take a break. The Civic Type R and Integra Type S, both of which use a 2.0-liter four with their manual transmissions, will continue.

Honda has given the Si a break before during the 40 years since it first launched in the US. It took a single-year pause in 1988 during the transition between the third and fourth-generation Civics. It was also missing between 1996 and 1999, and between 2016 and 2021.
A break during model changeover isn’t unusual for the Si or for other performance cars. The 12th-generation Honda Civic is expected sometime in the next six to eight months, but there hasn’t been anything official as of yet. It’s also likely to arrive as a 2028, not a 2027, which means this is a different kind of pause.
Honda Canada confirmed that production is taking a break, and that includes pausing production of Si sedans built for the factory’s own market. There, a spokesperson said it was related to “evolving business conditions,” the same language used in the US. Instead of those cars, the plant will build more Civic sedans in other trim grades.
As for how long this pause will be, that’s anyone’s guess. Sharing “more details at the appropriate time” is about as open-ended as it gets. So if you have a bottle of something to pour out for Si, now is the time.
