- The model will join the Da Tang SUV, which began deliveries last month, to form a pair of flagship models for BYD’s Dynasty lineup.
BYD (HKEX: 1211) is teasing its new flagship sedan, the Da Han (or Great Han, Grand Han), whose battery electric vehicle (BEV) version offers a super long range of 1,008 kilometers.
China’s largest new energy vehicle (NEV) maker said Thursday that the Dynasty 9-series flagship sedan will make its debut at the Chengdu Auto Show in August.
BYD announced the plan at an event in Xinjiang celebrating the delivery of the 10,000th Da Tang EV, its flagship sport utility vehicle (SUV).
Lu Tian, general manager of sales for BYD’s Dynasty lineup, said the Da Han combines D+ segment proportions with a range of 1,008 kilometers, embodying what a Dynasty 9-series flagship sedan should be.
BYD described the Da Han as a flagship sedan that is both enjoyable to drive and practical to use. The model measures more than 5.2 meters in length and has a wheelbase of more than 3.1 meters.
The Da Han is the Dynasty lineup’s first D-segment flagship sedan. Positioned above the existing Han flagship sedan, it represents BYD’s latest effort to accelerate its expansion into the premium market.
Regulatory filings released June 10 showed that the Da Han measures 5,256 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width and 1,510 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,130 mm.
BYD filed 3 versions of the model, including 2 BEV variants and 1 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) variant.
The all-wheel-drive BEV version uses a dual-motor system with a combined peak output of 570 kW, or 764 hp, and a top speed of 270 kilometers per hour.
All 3 versions use BYD’s Blade batteries based on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry. The batteries are expected to be the company’s second-generation Blade batteries, which support ultra-fast flash charging.
The twenty-ninth Chengdu Auto Show will be held from August 21 to 30 in Chengdu, Sichuan province. It is one of China’s 5 major A-class auto shows and attracted nearly 120 brands last year.
The Da Han sedan and Da Tang SUV will jointly target the premium market. The latter, the Dynasty lineup’s first D-segment flagship SUV, was launched June 17 with prices ranging from 239,900 yuan ($35,330) to 309,900 yuan.
The Da Tang EV uses second-generation Blade Battery and offers a maximum battery electric range of 950 kilometers. BYD calls it the world’s longest-range full-size SUV.
The 10,000th Da Tang EV was delivered today, with the owner being Dong Lu, founder of China’s grassroots youth football development program Chinese Football Boy.
