Land Rover is preparing to add a fully electric version of the Range Rover Sport to its lineup, giving one of its most popular luxury SUVs a new battery-powered direction. The Range Rover Sport Electric made its prototype debut around the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed, giving the public an early look at what appears to be a nearly production-ready model. While Land Rover has not released the full specification sheet yet, the message is clear: the Range Rover Sport is joining the electric performance SUV conversation.

The electric Range Rover Sport is expected to use a dual-motor setup with all-wheel drive, keeping in line with the off-road and all-weather capability expected from the Range Rover name. Early reports point to as much as 542 horsepower and 637 pound-feet of torque, which would give the EV plenty of authority even in a segment filled with quick electric SUVs. Range is said to reach up to 380 miles on the European WLTP cycle, although the eventual EPA figure for the U.S. will likely be lower and could still land above 300 miles.

Styling changes appear intentionally subtle, which is very Range Rover. The electric model keeps the familiar Range Rover Sport shape, proportions, and upscale presence, with the most obvious differences being a closed-off upper grille treatment and the absence of exhaust outlets at the rear. That restrained approach should appeal to buyers who want the benefits of an EV without a design that shouts about it from every angle.

The electric model will arrive alongside a Range Rover Sport lineup that still includes serious gas-powered performance. The current Range Rover Sport SV uses a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 rated at 626 horsepower, so the electric version may not win the spec-sheet horsepower battle outright. However, instant electric torque could make the EV feel quicker in everyday driving, and Land Rover has already suggested this model has the potential to redefine performance SUVs.

Timing remains the biggest unanswered question. The full-size Range Rover Electric has taken a slow and careful path toward production, and the Range Rover Sport Electric could follow a similar route. Still, the prototype shown without heavy camouflage suggests Land Rover is getting close. If it reaches showrooms sometime in 2027, the Range Rover Sport Electric could give luxury SUV buyers a compelling blend of silent performance, traditional Range Rover refinement, and enough electric range to make it a realistic daily driver.
